Troubleshooting Steps for your Default Calendar
Last updated: July 2026
Applies to: WeekCal (iOS), iPadOS
Some WeekCal users have reported missing calendar events, particularly when using the default Apple Calendar (iCloud). In many cases, the missing events are also absent from Apple's Calendar app, suggesting the issue is related to Apple's calendar synchronization rather than WeekCal.
We’re closely monitoring the situation and have confirmed that:
WeekCal mirrors events from your iOS Calendar. It does not store your calendar events.
This issue occurs since the iOS 18 updates and may affect multiple calendar apps using Apple’s Calendar API.
WeekCal does not store your calendar events. It displays the calendars available through Apple's Calendar framework. If an event is missing from both WeekCal and Apple's Calendar app, the issue is typically outside of WeekCal.
Step 1. Check Apple's Calendar App
Open the default Calendar app that comes with your iPhone or iPad and look for the missing event.
✔ The event appears in Apple's Calendar app
This means your calendar data is available on your device, but WeekCal isn't displaying it correctly.
Please contact us so we can investigate.
To help us troubleshoot, include:
- The date of the missing event.
- The calendar it belongs to (iCloud, Google, Exchange, Outlook, etc.).
- A screenshot showing the event in Apple's Calendar app.
- A screenshot of the same date in WeekCal.
To contact us, open WeekCal > Settings > Contact Support.
Please mention in your email that the event is visible in Apple's Calendar app but missing in WeekCal.
Once you've sent your message, you can stop here.
✘ The event is also missing from Apple's Calendar app
This usually indicates a calendar synchronization issue rather than a problem with WeekCal.
Continue to Step 2.
Step 2. Check your calendar settings
Make sure the calendar containing the missing event is enabled.
Open the Apple Calendar app.
Tap Calendars.
-
Verify the correct calendars are checked.
If you're using multiple accounts (such as iCloud, Google, Outlook, or Exchange), confirm you're viewing the correct one.
If everything looks correct, continue to Step 3.
Step 3. Verify Calendar Sync
Go to:
Settings > Apps > Calendar > Sync
Make sure Sync is set to All Events.
If it's already set to All Events, try changing it to another option, then change it back to All Events.
Afterward, open the Apple Calendar app and allow a few minutes for your events to sync.
If your events return, reopen WeekCal.
If not, continue to Step 4.
Step 4. Refresh your calendar account
If you use iCloud:
Go to:
Settings > Apps > Calendar > Calendar Accounts > iCloud
Turn Use on this iPhone off, then back on.
If you use Google, Outlook, or Exchange:
Verify that Calendars is enabled for the account. If needed, remove the account from your device and add it again to refresh the connection.
Once syncing completes, check both Apple Calendar and WeekCal again.
If your events are still missing, continue to Step 5.
Step 5. Still missing?
If the events are still missing from both Apple's Calendar app and WeekCal, the issue is most likely related to your calendar provider or Apple's calendar synchronization.
Continue with the additional troubleshooting steps below, or contact Apple Support if the issue persists.
Additional Troubleshooting
- Restart your device.
- A full reboot can reset calendar syncing and background processes.
- Check device and iCloud storage.
- Make sure you have sufficient available space. See Apple’s article: Manage your iCloud storage on your Apple device
- Update iOS and WeekCal.
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest version of iOS. Also update WeekCal via the App Store.
- Verify your Default Calendar.
- Go to Settings > Calendar > Default Calendar and ensure it’s set to a calendar that is actively syncing.
- Confirm the events appear on iCloud.com or your calendar provider's website.
- Visit iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
Check if the missing events appear in your iCloud Calendar to confirm the data is syncing properly.
- Visit iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Reconnect your calendar account.
- Remove and re-add the calendar account (especially if using Exchange, Outlook, or Google).
- Restore your iCloud calendars (if applicable).
Verify WeekCal's Default Calendar
If you're creating new events, it's important to verify which calendar WeekCal is using as the default.
WeekCal Calendar Preferences
To check this in WeekCal:
Open WeekCal
Tap the gear icon to open Settings
Tap Calendar Preferences
Under New Event Defaults, check your Default Calendar
This setting determines which calendar account your events are saved to by default—such as iCloud, “On My iPhone,” Outlook, Gmail, or another connected calendar account.
⚠️ What Happens If the Calendar Account Is Removed
Suppose the calendar account selected under Default Calendar was later removed from your device, for example, by logging out of your email or calendar account. In that case, those events will no longer appear in WeekCal or the Apple Calendar app.
Since WeekCal syncs with the calendar accounts currently connected to your device, removing or signing out of one of these accounts may result in the disappearance of calendars and events from the app. The events themselves may still exist, but they will not be visible unless the account is reconnected.
