How Do Event Colors Work in WeekCal?
In WeekCal, the colors of your events are determined by a set of rules and preferences that you can customize. Understanding how these colors are assigned and what takes precedence can help you better organize your calendar visually. Here's a breakdown of the event color logic:
-
Manual Color
- This is a color you select yourself when creating or updating an event.
- Choices include Pro Colors, Custom Colors, Standard Colors, or a Random selection.
-
Precedence: Manual Color selection overrides all other color settings.
-
Auto Color
- These are keyword-based color automations that you set up to be applied automatically based on certain criteria or keywords associated with your events.
- Set up Auto Colors by navigating to Settings > Automation > Auto Colors > Add Rule.
-
Precedence: Auto Colors take effect unless overridden by a Manual Color selection.
-
Default Color
- A pre-selected color that applies to all new events as a default setting.
- To apply a default color to your events, navigate to Settings > Calendar Preferences > New Event Defaults > Default Color and select your desired color option.
- Options for Default Colors include Pro, Custom, Standard, or Random.
-
Precedence: Default Colors are applied unless an Auto Color or a Manual Color is specified.
-
Calendar Color
- These colors are automatically assigned to match the event’s corresponding calendar. For Calendar Colors to be applied, the Default event color must be set to None.
- When a new calendar is added, its color is randomly generated but can be changed later in the Calendars screen.
-
Precedence: Calendar Colors are the fallback and apply when no other color settings are active.
Understanding Your Color Options in WeekCal
Each color option in WeekCal serves a unique purpose and offers different levels of customization based on your subscription. Here's what each option represents:
- Standard Colors: A set of basic colors that all users have access to. This includes a variety of predefined colors as well as a "Random" option, which assigns a random color to each event.
- Custom Colors: Allows you to create and save your own unique colors. These are particularly useful for users who require specific color coding for their events. This feature is now exclusive to Pro/Elite users.
-
Pro Colors: These are premium colors arranged in specially curated palettes designed to enhance visual organization and aesthetic appeal. Available exclusively for Pro/Elite users.
Note: Applying a Color Palette will override all other colors chosen. Currently, there is no way to 'undo' applying a Color Palette to your calendar.
Knowing these options and how they relate to your account type will help you make the most of your event coloring features and ensure your calendar is both functional and visually appealing.
